Dr. Frank Stevens Student Scholarship Endowment

About Dr. Stevens

Dr. Frank Stevens, affectionately known as "Doc", attended the WVU School of Dentistry from 1958 to 1962. He worked his way through dental school at a local radio station. That's how broadcasting became his second love just behind patients and their oral health. Upon graduation, he worked in private practice for 23 years. He also served in a number of capacities at the dental school for 19 years. While treating his own patients and then educating future dentists, Stevens managed to serve as the public address announcer at WVU football and basketball games. The announcing gig became something of a full-time hobby that made him an active supporter of Mountaineer athletics and The Pride of West Virginia, WVU’s band. In 2004, the first Dr. Frank Stevens Student Scholarship was awarded to a dental school student.

"Doc's" Mountaineer legacy continues to be honored. The scholarship fund and the support it receives allowed for the distribution of $68,610 over the first 15 years of the endowment. In that time, 45 students received individual scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,270.

To ensure the future of the Dr. Frank Stevens Student Scholarship Endowment Fund, an annual golf outing is planned for alumni, friends and supporters. The tournament was not hosted during the COVID pandemic.

This endowment shall provide undergraduate scholarships for West Virginia residents who are students enrolled in WVU School of Dentistry. Recipients shall demonstrate financial need. A student who is a recipient one year is eligible for consideration in any other year. Funds shall be awarded in the name of Dr. Frank Stevens.
