Certification Renewal

The WVU Genius Portal will require tobacco treatment specialists to create an account in the system to pay the renewal fee ($25) and upload 16 CEU hours related to tobacco use disorder or motivational interviewing.

Step One: Create a WVU micro-credential account through the WVU Genius Portal. Submitting the account creation form will generate an email containing a temporary password.

  • The new account email will contain a temporary password. Use it and your username (this is your email address) to sign in.
  • You will be required to change your password the first time you sign in. Passwords must be 12-20 characters and contain at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number and one special character.
  • Renewal occurs every two years; save your password.

Step Two: After you have set up your account using the link provided in the email and changed your password, you are signed in and should see your Learner Dashboard.

  • In the Dashboard, click on the Course Catalog link on the left of the screen or under the drop-down menu on a mobile device to find available courses.
  • Use the drop-down options to select Renewal Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certificate.

Step Three: 

  • When the course card opens, select Enroll at the bottom right. Close out the course card and select the Cart in the upper left-hand corner.
  • Scroll down and select desired Payment Method and follow the instructions to pay the $25 renewal fee.

Step Four: Once you have registered and enrolled int he course, upload transcripts as one document to demonstrate your 16 CEU requirements:

  • In left-hand menu, select Document Upload.
  • Select Add New.
  • Select the appropriate drop-down menu document (16 CEU hours).
  • Drag and Drop or Upload the file from your computer.
    • The system will only accept one document with size limitations; combine all transcripts and save as a reduced size PDF.
  • Select Submit.

Once the 16 CE hours are verified and your certification renewal fee payment is confirmed, you will receive an email with instructions to download your renewed Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certificate.
