The program can be used to prepare individuals who are interested in pursuing specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or have a desire to gain additional surgical experience to enter into a general dental practice. The intern will attend all conferences similar to the OMFS residents and will gain clinical and didactic experiences in the full scope of the specialty.
Internship
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship is a one-year pre-residency program designed to gain additional experiences and training in oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures.
Overview
The intern will gain experience in simple and more complex dentoalveolar procedures such as pre-prosthetic and impactions. The intern will learn to evaluate and manage medically compromised patients in both the ambulatory and hospital setting. Interns will also have the opportunity to gain exposure to conscious anesthetic techniques such as IV sedation and general anesthesia. After hour on call responsibilities include management and evaluation of trauma patients similar to PGY-I/II residents in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
