Master of Science in Periodontics
Application Deadline: September 15, 20251 Qualifications
- Must have passed National Dental Board Examination Part I at the time of application and Part 2 upon entrance to the program or the Integrated Exam (INBDE).
- Must have earned a D.M.D. or D.D.S. degree, or its equivalent.
- Must be proficient in the English language or provide a recent TOEFL score (if from a non-English speaking country). Review additional information for international students.
- Must display evidence of scholastic and clinical achievement that would indicate the ability to progress in a program of this nature. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required.
2 Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS)
The Master of Science in Periodontics program participates in the Postdoctoral Application Support Service Program (PASS).

Applicants must also obtain a match number from National Matching Services to be considered for admission. Applicants participating in application to both Match and non-Match programs will not be considered for admission.
Once an application and supporting materials are processed in PASS and received by WVU, the submission will be reviewed by the Periodontics Graduate Program Selection Committee.
3 Interview
Applicants selected for an interview are required to complete the WVU Graduate Application, including the application fee. Information regarding the steps for submission will be provided in the interview invitation.
An invitation for interview should not be construed as evidence of acceptance; it is a requirement that assists in the selection process.
4 Acceptance
Applicants approved for admission to the program will be notified through Match and an official acceptance letter from the WVU School of Dentistry.
Admitted applicants must fulfill specific pre-matriculation requirements:
- Complete Criminal Background Investigation prior to final acceptance, to be paid by applicant.
- Submit required immunizations documentation by June 1 prior to enrollment start date.
- Submit official transcripts of all coursework as specified in the provisional offer letter.
- Review Technical Standards Policy.
- Become familiar with the Infection and Biohazard Control Policy.
- Complete all other admission requirements as listed in the provisional offer letter.
- Must be eligible for and obtain a West Virginia dental license or a dental intern/resident permit prior to the first day of program orientation.
