Provider and children's oral health advocate named dental school distinguished alumnus

Dr. Michael George is a 1984 dental school graduate

Dr. Michael George, West Virginia University School of Dentistry alumnus, past alumni board president and children's oral health advocate, was selected as the alumni association's Distinguished Alumnus at the organization's annual spring reunion in April.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award nomination for Dr. George is below. 

 "It’s with great pride and pleasure to introduce Dr. Michael George as the 2024 recipient of the WVU School of Dentistry Alumni Associations highest award, The Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Dr. George is a native of the Keystone State, grew up in Uniontown Pennsylvania, and graduated from Uniontown Area High School in 1976. He, however; saw the light and then traveled the country roads to Morgantown, where he graduated from WVU Cum Laude in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts in biology.

Mike entered the WVU School of Dentistry in 1980, graduated in 1984, and went into practice in Uniontown with his bother Mallard.

Dr. George almost immediately became involved in organized dentistry and is a member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, Dental Society of Western Pennsylvania, and has served as President of the Fayette County Dental Society. Mike has also served as a delegate to the Pennsylvania Dental Association.

Dr. George plays a large role in his community and has served as Chairman of the Children’s Dental Health Association, the American Heart Association, and the Uniontown YMCA. Dr. George was also the campaign chairman of the capital campaign for the YMCA expansion. Mike has also been very involved with his church, has been a member of the Parish Council for 25 years, and served as its president multiple times.

However most of us know Mike for his love of the WVU School of Dentistry and Alumni Association. Mike has served in multiple capacities at the school, has spoken at the Professionalism Assembly, the Clinic Induction Ceremony, and has been very involved in both the mentorship and sponsorship program.

Mike has served multiple terms on the Board of Governors of our Alumni Association and is a two-time president."
