Nursing students, faculty invited to participate at National Scouts Jamboree

Information session set for March 24, 2026

WVU School of Nursing students and faculty across all campus locations are invited to participate at the upcoming Scouting America National Jamboree, which will be held July 22-31, 2026, at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Glen Jean.

Instructor Mike Bellisario will host an information session via Zoom on Tuesday, March 24 at 6 p.m. for interested individuals to learn more. Please register online to receive login information.

The Jamboree, Scouting’s premier event held once every four years, is a 10-day summer gathering of tens of thousands of Scouts, leaders, and Jamboree Service Team members. The event features entertainment, hiking, adventure sports, and more at the 10,000-acre reserve.

Nursing students who attend will have the opportunity to work with patient populations they may not normally see in a clinical setting, including children and adults from across the country. Students will work in 12-hour shifts, and they will work collaboratively with students from other disciplines, such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and psychology.

Students can receive credits for pediatrics and community nursing for their participation. Graduate nursing students are also invited to attend the event.

In their downtime, students can socialize, experience the scenic Reserve, and enjoy the many activities the Jamboree has to offer.

“This is a very supportive environment where students can use the skills they’ve learned in clinical environments,” Bellisario said.

Faculty are invited to attend the event as well, allowing them a chance to support and teach students in a dynamic environment. They can provide supervision for a variety of medical needs, including sprains, fractures, and mental health concerns. Like student attendees, faculty also have free time to enjoy the Jamboree.

Information about the last event in July 2023 is available online.
