Because of his many accomplishments, Dr. Larry Keith Hildebrand has been chosen to receive the 2020 WVU School of Dentistry Distinguished Alumnus Award. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, an in-person celebration was not held in 2020. This spring, the celebration and announcement took place on Zoom.
Dr. Hildebrand is a native West Virginian. His early education was in his hometown, Oak Hill, WV. Following high school, Dr. Hildebrand was admitted to West Virginia Institute of Technology where he earned his degree in dental hygiene. In 1976, Dr. Hildebrand entered the WVU School of Dentistry DDS program and graduated in 1980. By 1984, Dr. Hildebrand earned his post-doctorate degree in endodontics from WVU.
Upon completing the endodontics program, Dr. Hildebrand opened his private practice in Huntington where he continued to treat patients until he joined the WVU School of Dentistry faculty in 2014.
Dr Hildebrand served as both acting chairperson of the endodontics department and as the director of the pre- doctoral program in endodontics.
Dr. Hildebrand has been extensively involved in organized dentistry since the beginning of his practice. He has served as president of the Huntington Dental Society and the Monongahela Valley Dental Society. In 2005 was installed into the highest office of West Virginia Dental Association as its president. Additionally, Dr. Hildebrand has been the president of the West Virginia Society of Endodontists and section chairperson of the West Virginia American College of Dentists.
Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Hildebrand holds fellowships with the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Hildebrand has also served a number of terms on the WV Dental Association Executive Council and the WVU School of Dentistry Alumni Association.
