Well, well, well, fall is here, and as of September 16, the WVU football team is undefeated (hopefully that will not change by the time you are reading this latest edition). Yes, I am going to the game in Charlotte with my son Charles and my grandson Travis, and MAYBE we will all have a smile on our faces after the game.
I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce everyone to the Class of 2030. They will be the stars of the future, and if you would like to be a mentor to any of these students, we would be glad to oblige!!!!!
Thanks to the Dean, Dr. Stephen Pacuta, and Executive Dean, Dr. Valerie Perrine, the mentorship program was reintroduced last year. We had a wonderful reception at the Erickson Alumni Center in November and are planning to do it again this year. If you would like to become a mentor or find out more about the program, you can contact Dr. Perrine or her administrative associate, Jetta Peterkin, at 304-293-5589. Although there are many wonderful functions that occur during freshman orientation, the highlight is the Professional Assembly. The picture below was taken during this great event, which has always been co-sponsored by our WVU Dental Alumni Association (the #1 Dental Alumni Association in the World).
The other major function that occurred recently was the investiture of our esteemed and beloved chairman of Orthodontics, Dr. Peter Ngan. The event occurred on Friday, September 11, at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel, thanks to a $2 million gift from Dr. Tom Arkle, a 1978 graduate of the school. Tom wished to honor and thank Peter for his leadership, scholarship, and contributions to the school and field of orthodontics. The function was held in conjunction with the annual orthodontics continuing education course, and over 100 grads, alums, and family members were in attendance.

The other great news that I have is that we have a number of new additions to the faculty, but I thought I would wait till next month to make my introductions.
