Carpenter receives continued funding for Nurse Faculty Loan Program

Roger Carpenter, PhD, RN, professor in the West Virginia University School of Nursing Adult Health Department and director of the nursing PhD program in the Office of Academics, has received notification of continued funding for the “Nurse Faculty Loan Program.”

The Health Resources and Services Administration, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, awarded $39,394 for the 2026 fiscal year, which represents year three of the grant totaling $96,514.

The grant supports the Nurse Faculty Loan Program, which provides low interest loans to graduate nursing students pursuing careers as nursing faculty. The program aims to increase the number of qualified nursing educators needed to prepare the nursing workforce and meet the health care needs in the United States. It offers eligible graduates up to 85% loan forgiveness in exchange for up to four years of full-time employment as nursing faculty at an accredited school of nursing. Through financial support and educational preparation, the program helps develop a well-qualified nursing faculty workforce and expand clinical training opportunities for future nurses.
