West Virginia University School of Dentistry Associate Dean for Clinical Education and Patient Care Tammy Chipps, DDS, MA, co-authored a recently published research article in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine.
The article, “COVID‐19 deaths in dental occupations and other healthcare occupations among U.S. decedents in 2020,” analyzed mortality data and found that dental occupations did not have significantly higher risk for COVID-19 death among healthcare occupations as earlier studies had suggested.
In addition to Dr. Chipps, the research team included Brie Hawley Blackley, PhD, MS, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Ethan Fechter-Leggett, DVM, MPVM, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Talia Alexander, MS, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Fotinos Panagakos, DMD, PhD, Pacific Northwest University; and Jean Cox-Ganser, PhD, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The American Journal of Industrial Medicine is a peer-reviewed occupational and environmental health and safety journal. The article was published Aug. 9 online.
