Why did you choose to earn your dental hygiene degree at WVU School of Dentistry?
WVU felt like a home away from home as soon as I stepped onto campus. The smaller dental hygiene class was a blessing in disguise, and I have never felt so uplifted and close with a group of people who were strangers four years ago. Spending all day everyday with this group has bettered myself not only as a clinician, but as a person.
Which person at WVU has had the biggest impact on your college experience?
I would not be who I am today without Ms. McQuain. From the first class I had with her sophomore year to being a TA for her class now, she has always been both my biggest supporter and biggest challenger. She knows how to push me to be a better clinician and person, and I would not be who I am today without her. A million thank yous simply is not enough to show my gratitude to her.
As a soon-to-be graduate, what is your best advice for incoming dental hygiene students?
Don’t be afraid to ask a question. A lot of the classes you take will build on one another, so there is no shame in staying on top of your troubles, and facing them head on. Also, your classmates are going through the same challenges as you, so don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and reach out to new people!
