Global health challenges and experiences will be explored during the West Virginia University School of Medicine's 2017 Global Health Week held at the WVU Health Sciences Center.
Daily lectures will feature a speaker at noon starting Monday, Sept. 25 through Friday, Sept. 29. This event is sponsored by the Global Health Program, Department of Medicine and the WVU School of Pharmacy.
“The world is a global community,” Melanie A. Fisher, M.D., M.Sc., director of the Global Health Program, said. “The health of other countries is closely linked to the health of our own communities in the United States. Lessons learned in global settings can be applied to our own health challenges in West Virginia. It is important for us to have ideas and knowledge concerning global health issues in order to improve the health of people worldwide. ”

Dr. Cremer is the Director of Global Health Research at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner School of Medicine as well as the Founder of Basic Health International, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the burden of cervical cancer morbidity and mortality in low-resource settings. She is known worldwide as an expert in cervical cancer screening and treatment in low-resource settings and was a collaborator for the World Health Organization’s Guidelines for Cryotherapy, published in 2012.
