Latest Update:

Application for Summer CARES Act Emergency Grant

The emergency grant provided as part of the federal CARES Act is intended to help students with financial need for the summer semester due to COVID-19. For consideration, students must be eligible for Title IV aid, cannot be enrolled in programs that were exclusively online even before COVID-19 closures, and must be enrolled at least half-time in summer to be considered, unless they are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant (Pell-eligible students will still be considered if less than half-time).

Make sure your Student Name, WVU Student ID Number, and Student MIX Email exactly match your information on your STAR account (via your WVU Portal) before submitting. Inputting incorrect information may cause delays or prevent consideration for the grant.

To determine Title IV aid eligibility, students must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2019-2020 academic year to be reviewed for eligibility for the emergency assistance. If you have not submitted a 2019-2020 FAFSA, you may still do so by visiting the Federal Student Aid website.

*This information is based on the latest guidance available from the Department of Education and may not be the final update to how the government requires the University to distribute the funds. WVU continues to seek guidance from the federal government and will notify students and families as soon as possible of any further changes.

By submitting this application, you are requesting the emergency grant for summer. You are also acknowledging that the information provided is accurate and that you understand you may be asked to provide supporting documentation. Please note that due to limited financial resources and volume of need, some applications may not be approved. Please answer the questions below for consideration for funds.
