Dr. Tammy Chipps is the Chairperson of the WVU Dental Corporation Board. On behalf of the group, Dr. Chipps has a message of gratitude for staff, faculty and administrators during this difficult time.
I am so pleased and honored to be working not only with faculty and administrators who had no negative response to the stipend reductions, but also some who chose to incur reductions while not required to do so. This truly shows how much faculty and administration value and care about our staff, as the reductions help allow them to continue to receive pay while they are not able to come to work.

Dear Colleagues,
The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented event. As you can imagine, there are obvious financial implications that the WVU Dental Corporation must consider as it attempts to navigate these circumstances. After much thought and careful consideration, the Dental Corporation Board voted during an emergency meeting on April 10, 2020, to make Corporation stipend reductions as follows:
· For those employees that are not involved in patient care at this time, the portion of your compensation which is supplemented by the Dental Corporation will be reduced by 25%.
· For those employees that continue to stay involved in patient care through this health crisis, the portion of your compensation supplemented by the Dental Corporation will remain unchanged. However, given the response by many Dental Corporation providers, employees that continue to work may voluntarily elect to reduce their Dental Corporation compensation up to 25%. If a provider elects to do this, it must be communicated to Paula Rice via email (ricep@hsc.wvu.edu) by no later than April 22nd.
These reductions will be implemented moving forward beginning on the start of the next pay period (April 20th) and will be reflected on the May 8th pay. Should you have questions about the Board’s determination, these should be directed to Board President, Tammy Chipps (tchipps@hsc.wvu.edu). Should you have questions about Dental Corporation operations, these can be directed to Phil Sperry (mpsperry@hsc.wvu.edu).
Many of you have inquired as to how to provide additional support to the WVU Dental Corporation at this time and have offered further stipend reductions. We appreciate your generosity and willingness to make further reductions for the overall benefit of the Corporation. However, due to relief programs the Corporation is exploring which require us to maintain certain payroll levels, the reductions outlined herein are the maximum available right now.
That said, should you wish to utilize your stipend to make a charitable contribution back to the Corporation, this can be done through the WVU Foundation. Please contact Ms. Karen Coombs, Director of Development, who would be happy to discuss the details. You can contact her at 304-216-3784 or via email at karen.coombs@hsc.wvu.edu.
Again, thank you for your efforts and cooperation throughout these trying times. We hope you all stay safe and well.
Sincerely,
Tammy L. Chipps, DDS
