As West Virginia University prepares to welcome the first graduate and undergraduate cohorts to two of its newest programs – Master of Health Administration and Health Services Leadership and Management, respectively – it is expanding its resources to enhance the student experience.
The WVU School of Public Health, home to both new programs, was recently welcomed as an associate member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. AUPHA, a global network of colleges and universities “dedicated to the improvement of health and healthcare delivery through excellence in healthcare management and policy education,” grants membership to premier baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degree programs in health administration.
“The Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) is extremely pleased to welcome West Virginia University to our community of scholars,” said Daniel Gentry, PhD, MHA, president and CEO of AUPHA. “As the global leader in health management and policy education, AUPHA’s membership is made up of nearly 400 graduate and undergraduate programs in 232 universities across North America, and with program and individual members around the world.”
As an AUPHA member, the WVU School of Public Health gains exclusive access to ample resources.
“This will provide exceptional opportunities for our faculty and students,” said Erik Carlton, DrPH, associate dean for professional programs and MHA program director. “Our faculty will have access to a resource-rich network of peers and instructional tools, and students will benefit from unique professional development opportunities and scholarships, just to name a few. As the only AUPHA member in the state, this really sets our programs apart.”
Additionally, AUPHA membership positions WVU to establish a collegiate chapter of Upsilon Phi Delta, a health administration honor society that recognizes and fosters academic excellence in healthcare management and policy – another benefit to students, faculty and future graduates of both the WVU MHA and HSML programs.
“As the WVU School of Public Health began its work on developing both undergraduate and graduate academic programs in health management, the School’s leaders immediately engaged with AUPHA,” Gentry said. “We look forward to a long, collaborative, and prosperous relationship between AUPHA and WVU.”
