Class of 2024 - Zachary Ransom

1) Why did you choose WVU?

I have lived in West Virginia the majority of my life. A West Virginian is a title that I have grown to take pride in. Mountaineer is a new title that I find myself excited for, I know that this title will come with great experiences, challenges and growth, all right here in my home state.

2) What is your favorite activity?

I find joy in different medias of art. The art of turning nothing into something is an entertaining hobby to me.

3) What is your favorite TV program, movie, and who is your favorite music artist?

Netflix Original Series currently makes choosing a favorite TV program very challenging, but I have to go with the incredibly cheesy Canadian comedy “Schitts Creek”. I am a sucker for those late 80’s, early to mid-90’s movies like Shawshank Redemption, Dead Poet Society, and Good Will Hunting. Jon Bellion has a very distinct musical artistry; I appreciate it.

4) Who has been your greatest influence in your life, other than a family member, and why?

Jesus Christ. “When someone predicts their own death and resurrection, and then actually pulls it off, I listen to what they have to say.” – Andy Stanley

5) If you could be anyone, other than yourself, who would that be and why?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, even though it is unnecessary to explain, it is simply because he is the highest paid actor, has Oprah on speed dial, lifts heavy stuff, and has his own brand of Tequila.

6) What are your biggest worries about coming to the WVU dental school this fall?

The idea that I would have to virtually begin my experience as a D1 dental student this fall.

7) How do you deal with stress?

Physical fitness gives me both physical release and mental clarity, which allows for me to overall feel much more comfortable under lots of stress.

8) If you could change the world, what would you do?

If I could change the world, I would make the world a place where every person has an equal beginning to life, to have the opportunity to use their gifts and become the best that they can be with what they have to offer to the world.
