Special Olympics

Students and faculty travel to Charleston, WV annually to volunteer for the West Virginia Special Olympics. Dental screenings are provided to participants free of charge, and all who stop by receive a free goodie bag of donated dental products to remind them to keep up with their oral hygiene.

Trunk or Treat

Dental and Dental Hygiene programs annual attend WVU’s Trunk or Treat activity, where over 1,000 children are able to come to a safe, fun setting to trick or treat with their families. Students and faculty donate candy and time to make sure these children have a great Halloween! This is held annually at both the Coliseum and Chick-Fil-A. 

Homecoming Parade

Dental hygiene students annually participate in the West Virginia University Homecoming Parade with other student organizations. Students and faculty hand out donated items to as many spectators as they possibly can. These items include toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and mouth rinse! Over a thousand items were handed out in 2013!


Alzheimer’s Association – A Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Dental hygiene students create a team to raise money for Alzheimer’s awareness via A Walk to End Alzheimer’s, annually held at the Coliseum in Morgantown. Thousands gather in support of fighting this disease.

Relay for Life

Dental and dental hygiene students create teams and raise money for Relay for Life, which is held annually in Morgantown. This all-night event has fundraising

Elementary Education

Dental and dental hygiene students have gone to various elementary schools in Morgantown to educate students on oral hygiene. Donated items are provided to the children at these schools, as well as educational materials that can be brought home to families.

Dental hygiene students annually volunteer at Camp NABE, which is a bereavement camp for children ages 7-17. Camp NABE is free for all children who attend, and they are given tools to help them deal with loss. (

Children’s Discovery Museum of WV

Dental and dental hygiene students volunteer at the Children’s Discovery Museum in Morgantown and provide children and their families information about proper oral hygiene. Experiments, games, and handouts make education here more fun. The CDM offers many other educational opportunities for other disciplines. (
