School of Dentistry faculty present at conference

WVU School of Dentistry Clinical Professor Louise Veselicky, D.D.S., and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Christina DeBiase, Ed.D., along with Marshall University's Oral Health Coordinator Gina Sharps, M.P.H., recently gave a 60-minute, peer-reviewed presentation at the American Dental Education Association's annual session in San Antonio, Texas.
Entitled "Forging the Path to Competency in Community Engagement," the presentation covered the development and implementation of an "Introduction to Community Oral Health Course" in the first year of pre-doctoral dental curriculum. This course includes online, open-access learning materials that helps students accept their roles and responsibilities as community educators and appreciate the role of non-dental healthcare providers in providing oral health risk assessment. The course also supports public health policies to improve the oral health of people through all life stages while fostering professional team-building to promote health.

SOD Assistant Professor R. Constance Wiener, D.M.D., Ph.D., also participated in the submission of the project.
