The 2014 Annual E.J. Van Liere Memorial Convocation and HSC Research Day
was held February 27 - 28, 2014. The Van Liere Memorial Convocation events included oral presentations of research projects by a select number of graduate and professional students within the WVU Health Sciences, as well as others in training programs.
The HSC Research Day is the Health Science Center’s largest, comprehensive poster session providing faculty, residents, postdoctoral & clinical fellows, graduate students, and professional program students the opportunity to share their research at a poster session and engage in scientific discussion. This event was open to the Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health.

Ms. Samantha Forney and Ms. Ashley Gutta, (DH students) won 1st
Place for her poster, ”Oral Cancer Screening Techniques Utilized in US Dental Hygiene Programs”.
Ms. Andrea Flanary and Ms. Kayla Howard (DH students) won 2nd
Place for her poster, “Assessment of Injectable Neurotoxin Protein Utilization in West Virginia Dental Offices”.
Ms. Kerri Thomas, DDS student won 2nd
Place for her poster, “The Impact of Mobile Mocrobiome on Endotrach Colonization”.
DoBin Choi, DDS student won 1st
Place for her poster, “Efficacy of Orthodontic Sealants in Prevention of Enamel Demineralization”.
Dr. Khaled Selfelnasr, Endodontic resident won 1st
Place for his poster, “Probiotics: The Nano Army of Endodontics”.
Faculty mentors for these research projects were Mr. Kristafer Adkins, Dr. John Thomas and Dr. Peter Ngan.
2013 winners included Ms. Catlin Stover (DH) and Arturo Sosa (Dentistry).
