    Three restaurants have been announced for the former Health Sciences Cafe space, which is being renovated: EIO & The Hive, Little Donkey and Hugh Baby’s BBQ. Another restaurant will be announced soon.

    Asbestos abatement is currently underway in the area of the Health Sciences Café renovation. Due to the asbestos abatement containment, the hallway will be narrowed on the HSC North ground floor in the construction area.

    When John G. Thomas completed his Ph.D. at Syracuse University in 1969, he did not stick around for Commencement. “In 30 hours, I went from being a graduate student in the College of Arts and Sciences to a tank commander at Fort Sam Houston in Texas,” he recalls. On Friday, May 13, Thomas - a professor emeritus in the WVU Schools of Medicine and Dentistry - returned to Syracuse as its oldest and presumably most illustrious doctoral degree recipient.

    Fresh Hospitality, which operates restaurants at Evansdale Crossing and will be operating the revamped food service at the HSC, is planning a rapid renovation to the Health Sciences Café area on the ground floor of Health Sciences South. The HSC cafeteria will close Friday, May 6.

  • West Virginia University offers courses to reduce opioid use

    West Virginia University has added a new online course, “The Treatment of Pain and Addiction Utilizing Education and Proper Prescribing: The New Paradigm Continued.” The course will provide West Virginia physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and dentists with continuing education credit, and also fulfill the state’s requirement for training in avoiding diversion of prescriptions drugs into the illicit market.

    The awards honor faculty and staff who have made exceptional contributions to the mission of the University and the HSC over the past year. WVU Provost Joyce McConnell and HSC Vice President Clay Marsh will present awards Thursday, April 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pylons Lobby.
