Thomas L. Conklin, DDS
Mary Kay Doersch, DDS
Hello, I am Dr. Thomas L. Conklin and I graduated from West Virginia University School of Dentistry in 1993. I have been practicing in Bluefield since 1996. I am also an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Charleston Area Medical Center and I practice there on Tuesdays. Dr. Mary Kay Doersch graduated from WVU also and joined me in 1998. Dr. Laura Cox-Williams joined the practice shortly after graduation in 2005.
We have 3 offices: TLC Dental Care located at 1609 Maryland Avenue, Bluefield, WV (304) 327-5506, Bluefield Dental Associates located at 1607 Maryland Avenue, Bluefield, WV (304) 324-8703 and TLC Dental Care located at 8 Wyoming Street, Welch, WV (304) 436-6007. The offices are located in a new, free standing building near Bluefield Regional Medical Center. There are 13 operatories which are easily switched from right to left handed. We practice 4-handed dentistry with new ADEC equipment, computers and televisions in all operatories. There are individual radiograph units in each operatory and a pano machine with cephlometric capabilities. We utilize a communications system between operatories and the front desk. Full use of computers for charting, clinical records, appointment book for scheduling, statements and prescriptions.
The Welch office has 6 operatories and utilized the same set-up.
We are a group practice with 4 dentists and 3 hygienists. There are 8 assistants, 4 receptionists (some trained as assistants) and 1 office manager. Most assistants/receptionists have gone through the Princeton Vo-Tech dental assisting program. The offices are open 5 days per week.
Bluefield is a small, retirement community of about 12,000 with an additional 40,000 in a 20 mile radius. There is a mall and fast food restaurants nearby. Also a community center and wellness center in close proximity. There are many churches of different faiths. We are close to Pipestem, Pinnacle Rock, Claytor Lake and Winterplace Ski Resort. All are within a 30-45 minute drive. Bluefield is located about 2 ½ hours from Charlotte North Carolina and 1 ½ hours from Roanoke, VA. all interstate traveling.
My personal philosophy is that our office tries to provide the best possible treatment for patients. We believe in giving patients all possible treatment options and help them make a good decision, taking into consideration their health and finances. We expect our staff to perform in a professional manner at all times and perform to the best of their ability. We expect patients to participate in their oral care by good oral hygiene and post-op care.
To reach Bluefield, take I-79 to RT 19 then I-77 south through Beckley, Princeton and Bluefield at Ext 1. Follow RT 52 south off exit (exit right) to RT 460 west to Maryland Avenue (2nd red light). Take right at exit (towards Bluefield Regional Medical Center), follow down around curve to left then right at stop sign. Continue down over the hill and through 2 red lights. The building is ahead on the right about 1000 feet. It's the new building with green metal roof on right.
The distance is 223 miles and should take about 3 ½ hours from Morgantown.
