WVU School of Dentistry Alumni Presidents Message
Dear Mountaineer Alumni and Friends,
What an exciting time to be a part of the WVU School of Dentistry Alumni Association! By the time this letter goes through the publishing process and the mail to find itself in your hands, we should be welcoming a new dean to the school and moving forward into big things for this upcoming year! I am truly honored to be serving as president of our School of Dentistry Alumni Association for this term. I consider it a great responsibility and privilege.
If you haven't already been to our web page, please take a few minutes to check it out at www.hsc.wvu.edu/sod/Alumni-and-Friends. It is a great resource. In addition to our web page, we have taken a leap into the world of FACEBOOK and created our own group page. Please "like us" on facebook to join the group and stay connected to the School of Dentistry Alumni Association events and activities. Receive updates, share pictures, view informational links, and keep everyone connected through this page!
I encourage each of you to renew or begin your membership with the WVU School of Dentistry Alumni Association. With the annual dues, we sponsor so many events that support our alumni education, student opportunities and celebrations, renovation projects at the school, and of course the tailgates! I especially encourage my classmates, the class of 2007, as well as other classes celebrating anniversaries this year! We would love to have a great crowd of friends at our annual alumni dinner!
Mark your calendars now for the upcoming alumni events! We encourage you to stay connected by visiting the school as often as you can! Several opportunities are organized by the Alumni Association for you to do so. Our fall continuing education course is scheduled for Friday, September 23, 2011. The speaker will be Dr. Robert Lowe. Should be yet another great course thanks to the efforts of Dr. Ed White and Dr. William Queen! Dr. Ron Jackson (’77) will be the speaker for the course at the Spring Alumni Weekend scheduled for April 27 & 28. Dr. Jackson and his classmates will be celebrating their 40th anniversary! Plan to spend the weekend golfing, enjoying dinner at the banquet, and attending the CE course with us!
In closing I would like to thank Dr. Tony Philips (D’97), Dr. David Puderbaugh (D’64), and Dr. Cindi Shockey (H’76) who have completed their terms on the Board of Governors and welcome newly elected members Dr. Greg Lacy, (77) Dr. Clara Spatafore, (84) and Kathleen Ghareeb-Scarberry (H’06) as they join. A special thanks to Dr. Norton Smith for his 29 years of service as Secretary Treasurer for the association. Cathy Boyce, we so appreciate your willingness and dedication to the school in stepping up from administrative assistant to be the new Secretary Treasurer. I would also like to thank outgoing president Dr. Dallas Nibert who has led the board with passion and dedication for the last year. Thank you for all your service to the association!
We hope you’ll join us this upcoming year with your membership and attendance of events! With your participation, we can truly accomplish great things for our school and association. We appreciate your support and hope it will continue throughout the future!
Andrea Kuhn (H’07)
